As we tip our toes into the new world this fall we are beginning to gather together again.  Masks on, palms sanitized, we nod instead of shaking hands, limit hugs and keep a distance; but we need to be together.  Even animals in the wild come together at the water hole.  Our collective will to limit the spread of Covid 19 is strong, and we as a province have proven that we care enough about each other to do what is needed to keep our people safe.   But, done safely, we can still be together.

At the Millstone Public House we continue to offer sanitizing spray at the door, single use menus, physically distanced tables and more.  Our staff have always worn masks and are now greeting customers at the door who also wear face coverings that can’t entirely hide their smiles. Sure it’s weird, but it’s also a daily demonstration of togetherness.  Care for the common good.  It’s not forever, but it is for now…

We have heard from so many customers that the products they buy through our truckload sale are some of the best they have ever had.  A real standout has been the chicken breast which you have described as very juicy and flavourful.  The steaks are also incredibly tender and folks seem to love how they are individually vacuum sealed making thawing quick and easy.  The Pork Chops and Scallops are going fast this time around and have limited quantities so jump on those before they sell out.

We are selling 4kg of top quality frozen chicken breast for $55.00 which works out to $6.25 per pound!  These are individually commercially frozen top quality chicken breasts.  Open the bag, grab a few, throw them on the bbq and dinner is served.  Have you ever tried to BBQ frozen Chicken?  You’ll get great grill marks on the outside and have juicy (not over-cooked) tender chicken inside.  Just be sure to bring it to the correct temperature all the way through.

We are very pleased to say we are now OPEN for dine and take out. Our staff have worked around the clock to prepare for your arrival. You will note some changes to keep everyone safe.

-When you arrive you will be asked for wait until the entrance is clear before coming in.
-You will be greeted by a host who will show you to a table or take your name and phone number for the wait list. Those on the wait list will be asked to wait outside or in their cars. You will be called when your table is ready.
– Tables are strategically spaced out to allow for social distancing and limit us to 50% capacity
– Hand sanitizer will be available to you upon entering the building and during your visit
– Your server will be wearing a mask for your protection and security.
– Your menu will be single use paper recyclable.
– There will be nothing on the table. Salt, Pepper and condiments will arrive by request and be sanitizer before your use.
-Cutlery will be fully wrapped in your napkin so no contact will be made. Napkins are wrapped by staff wearing gloves and masks.
– Your dishes will be cleared to a bleach bin to sanitize before the dishwasher receives them. -Servers will wash or sanitize their hands after touching table surfaces or dishes from each table
– All frequently touches surfaces will be regularly sanitized on a schedule.
– Bar patrons will be seated 6 ft apart with plexiglass separating them from staff.
– We will accept cash but request debit or credit payment wherever possible.
– Debit machines will be wiped before and after each use.

We are happy to announce that we will be opening our doors to you this Friday June 5th at 11:30am.  This is a big day for all of us and we are busy preparing for your arrival.  We have repainted our walls, put new flooring in, done some fun redecorating, added new lighting, spruced up our patio and, of course, sanitized and cleaned absolutely every square inch of our restaurants.

New protocols will be in place to keep you safe but the same good times will be had at the Millstone Public House.  We hope to see you in person in the coming weeks and months but understand that everyone will have their own decisions to make as to when and where and how they gather out in public again.  For this reason we will continue to offer our contact free curb side pick up for take out at both locations.

As you know, we are limited to seating only 50% of our space and will keep tables 6 feet apart.  We are taking reservations and asking guests to arrive all together as a group promptly at your designated time.   Groups must be no larger than 10.   Walk in guests are also welcome.  When you arrive you will be asked for your name and table size.  If a table is not ready for you at that time you will be asked to wait outside or in your car and we will call you when your table is ready.  Hand sanitizing stations will be available to you upon arrival.

We have also ceased our Grocery service so that we can focus on dine in and take out operations.  To clear out our shelves and make way for menu items we were able to donate over 300kg of food to Feed Nova Scotia!  This would not have been possible without your support.

Our Mexican Feast went so well this week we sold out of our Cheese Dip and Bags of Tortilla Chips!  Thank you to everyone who joined in on the Fiesta.  To keep the party going we changed the special to have a delicious pair of Pulled Pork and Chorizo Sausage Quesadillas as an appetizer before the main meal.  The Enchiladas have been so popular that we may be adding them to our full menu…stay tuned.

We are CLOSED Monday and Tuesday and will also be CLOSED this Wednesday and Thursday in order to prepare to OPEN our doors to the public on Friday at 11:30am.

We will be limited to 50% capacity and tables will be spaced out to allow for social distancing.   Dishes will be cleared and placed in bleach water before they are handled by the dishwasher.  Servers will be required to wash their hands after clearing all items from each table. There is a lot to do from sanitizing and making safety plans to training staff and installing Plexiglas barriers.  It’s going to look a little different but we will do our best to make you feel at home as much as you always have at the Millstone.

Contact free Curb side pick up and trunk drop will continue but we will not be offering delivery after today.  Also, our grocery service will be reduced.  If you’d like to make a reservation for dine in service, please call the pub.  Our plan is to take bookings for about half of our tables and allow the other half to be available for walk ins.

With the warmer weather and upcoming summer we thought it was a great time to dine Mexican Style with a fiesta.  From Wednesday May 27th to Sunday May 31st we will be featuring a $50 Mexican feast.

Start with a large portion of Queso dip with mixed cheeses, jalapeños, peppers and fried black beans.  Pop the tin right in your oven at home to warm it up and melt the cheese then enjoy with a full 350 gram bag of Gluten Free, Que Pasa Organic Tortilla Chips!  You’ll have enough to share and possibly some left for later.

Then you can choose TWO of the following main courses.

• Nacho Crusted Haddock and Mexican Rice served with Sour Cream and Salsa
• Chicken or Black Bean Enchiladas with sautéed onions, jalapeños, red peppers and cheese served with Mexican Rice, Sour Cream and Salsa.
• Grilled Chicken Taco Salad with cheese, crumbled corn chips and a salsa dressing.

And finally, add a beverage of your choice.  What will it be??

• 1 Litre Bottle of Italian Red or White wine

We have put together a special for this week that is inspired by the delicious simplicity of classic Italian Food. This will be available Wednesday through Sunday at both locations.

You’ll start with a make-at-home charcuterie board with thin sliced  Prosciutto, mixed crackers and assorted cheeses then choose TWO of the following:

• Mac ‘N Cheese with hickory smoked bacon
• Classic Spaghetti Bolognese made with a red wine glaze, black Angus Beef, pork, mushrooms and onions.
• Hearty Italian Submarine Sandwich with cured meat, lettuce, tomato, red onion and provolone cheese drizzled with garlic olive oil.

To drink you can choose our I Litre Italian Red or White Wine, 6 Coors Light or 6 Toller Light beer.

Following the success of this weekend’s Mother’s Day special, we have decided to run another one. This special will be available Wednesday May 13th through Sunday May 17th while supplies last.

For $50 you will receive an order of crispy deep fried pulled pork wontons, plus your choice of any TWO mains listed and your choice of beverage.  Will it be two burgers or two pastas?  Or a burger and a pasta?  Red, White or Beer?

The wontons may be on our new menu so we are trying them out.  They are made in house and deep fried.  Very tasty.  The Double Bacon burger has Canadian Peameal Bacon as well as regular bacon to meet all your bacon needs.  The Meat Lovers baked penne will have pepperoni, chorizo sausage and ground beef

Also, noting the lack of hand sanitizer available in the stores, we have received a shipment from Compass Distillers and can now sell 120ml bottles of locally made hand sanitizer with your take out and delivery orders.  $5 each.  Grab a few for your car, home and purse.

We can also add things like milk, bread, bacon, ground beef, frozen chicken fingers, flour, pasta, potato chips, orange juice, eggs, frozen burger patties, burger buns and even toilet paper to your order.  Just ask your server when you’re on the phone.

Sunday is Mother’s Day and we have a special we think you’ll like.

On Saturday and Sunday this weekend we are offering any 2 of our delicious pastas, plus a large caesar salad and a 1 Litre bottle of Italian House wine for $50.  Contact free curb side pick up, trunk drop or home delivery available.  Our pastas are fabulous fresh but can also be stored in the fridge a reheated in their containers up to two days later.  The Caesar salad can come tossed or with dressing on the side depending on when you’d like to enjoy it.  Send us to your mom’s house with dinner and a bottle of wine and put a smile on her face!
