Open Mic Night at Millstone King’s Wharf

The maritimes are known for kitchen parties, ugly sticks, sing alongs, fiddle jams and gathering around song.  We wanted to offer that incredible vibe to our customers at the Millstone and are currently running an OPEN MIC NIGHT at our oceanside King’s Wharf location.  There is a small stage surrounded by a beautiful bar area and intimate tables with candles and drinks.  Come see what it’s all about Thursday nights from 8 – 11pm

Host and skilled musician Michael Haley will take the stage and engage the crowd in his incredible repertoire of songs from Oasis to Blue Rodeo to the Tragically Hip and more!  He will also open the stage to allow other local musicians to share their talent with the crowd.  It is fun and unique and an opportunity to hear new voices in this great community.  Come show them your support and have a great night doing it.

If you are a musician who’d like to take a shot on our stage, please email Michael Haley at MichaelHaley04@gmail.com to see if he has a slot open for you.

What would you do with a $100 Bar Tab?

As we round the corner on two years on the waterfront at Millstone King’s Wharf we are constantly told by new customers that they had never been in before….didn’t even know we were there!  Once they settle in to their cozy table they often comment on how great it is to see the water on all three sides of the restaurant.

It’s been a crazy first 22 months in that beautiful spot with many interruptions and restrictions to our operations but we are happy to have taken the plunge and excited about the busy holiday season and more. We are even booking weddings on the water!  What a stunning location to tie the knot and have a party.  If you’re interesting in options to host a wedding, retirement party, birthday, staff event, holiday gathering or more please contact Megan@millstonepublichouse.com

We would love to give you the opportunity to enjoy a great night out on the waterfront and are currently running an online contest where you could WIN a $100 food and beverage tab at the Millstone King’s Wharf.

Live Music at King’s Wharf – Brooklyn Blackmore

Last Thursday we enjoyed Live Music on the Waterfront for the first time and it was a huge success.  The customers sang along and enjoyed a beautiful candlelit evening on the water with friends and family.  At our beautiful King’s Wharf restaurant there are cozy nooks where the music is a little quieter, and barstools where you can get front and centre for the experience.  We hope you will come and check it out.

This Thursday October 27th we welcome award winning singer songwriter Brooklyn Blackmore.

Brooklyn Blackmore delivers captivating lyrics, dynamic vocals, and powerful mel

odies with a vintage feel. Her sound reflects influences of the old-school mystical style of Stevie Nicks and modern artists like Miley Cyrus. Blackmore won the Global Country Star Search in 2016, and Female Vocalist of the Year and Female Entertainer of the Year at the North American Country Music Association International in 2017

Come enjoy a night out with us.  We would love to serve you a great meal and have you stay for live music.  To book a table call us at 902-404-8053 or plan to come early and grab a great seat.  We have FREE street parking and gated parking available to our customers at King’s Wharf.

New Menu Items!

We have just re-vamped our menu at the Millstone Public House and would like to invite you to come try some new items.  One of our most popular additions is the fresh and flavourfull Avocado Toast.  It’s available during our Brunch service Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 to 2:00 pm along with our full menu.  Perhaps you’re a fan of the classic English Breakfast and would be keen to try the Millstone Fry Up.  With three eggs, two kinds of breakfast meat, fried tomato and beans it is just the kind of thing you need  to fill yourself up on the weekend.

Other new items include the just slightly spicy Curry Chicken Penne, the “I want a taste of Italy” Caprese Salad, the “I can’t believe that’s not meat” Veggie Burger and the “How can healthy taste so good?” Teriyaki Salmon.  As always, our new dishes are made from fresh ingredients with a quality of preparation you can really taste.

The Millstone Public House Victoria Day hours

As we enjoy this beautiful holiday Monday we may wish to raise a glass to the woman responsible for this National long weekend. Her name is Queen Victoria…and until 2015 when Queen Elizabeth stole the title she was the longest reigning monarch in England. With a total of 63 years on the throne this must be viewed as a rather large accomplishment in a time when many people did not live past 40. The period of her reign was known appropriately as the Victorian Era which is hallmarked by strict standards of personal morality and dress.

Victoria was born on May 24th, 1819 and was the fifth in line to the throne. When all four of her brothers died without heirs she ascended to the throne following a rather sad and lonely childhood. She was an 18 year old Queen, married to her first cousin when someone tried to kill her during her first pregnancy! She went on to have eight children and many more assassination attempts all while ruling an empire until her death in 1901 at the age of 81.

Her legacy includes the gradual establishment of a modern constitutional monarchy and reforms to the voting system which increased the power of the House of Commons and reduced the rule of the house of Lords. This forever changed the role of the British Monarchy and informs the way in which the current Queen interacts with the Prime Minister. In 1867, Walter Bagehot wrote that the monarch only retained “the right to be consulted, the right to encourage, and the right to warn.”

What a lady. What a life.

Both Millstone locations will be CLOSED on Monday May 21st.

Superbowl and our second Birthday!

On Sunday February 4th our little pub will turn 2 years old.  (Yes, we opened on February 7th, 2016 but it was on Superbowl Sunday so we’re rolling with that because it’s fun)  What an incredible first few years we have had.  Through a lot of learning curves, a few missteps and many wonderful days and nights we’ve grown into the community pub we dreamed of being.  We can not thank you enough for welcoming us into your lives and giving us the opportunity to employ 40 local service industry rock stars..it is a dream come true!  We invite you to come raise a glass with us in celebration of this 2 year milestone at the Millstone Public House.

We’d also like to invite you to come cheer on the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots as they battle for victory at the Superbowl.  So many have said the Eagles will take it this year…but then again the Patriots have their golden boy Mr. Bunchen 😉 .  The game will be played at both locations so pick your favourite Millstone and your favourite team and get in on the action.

If you want to know some things about the teams..click here.

Come as you are….

When we dreamed of opening a neighbourhood pub we imagined a place that would feel like a home away from home.  A public place to chill out and enjoy some down time with friends & family or all on your own.  Every square inch of the Millstone Public House has a pinch of character and offers a gentle nod to the importance of play.  Yes, we love sports, but we also love the way people come together around them.  Whether lacing up or cheering from the stands we all have a connection to the game.  It’s about having fun and doing something just for the joy of it.  It’s time off the devices and we love it!  We see the pub as an extension of that; a great part of a day well spent.

We designed the bar top to be a spot where the rising of the glass or the raising of the eyebrow would be seen as a moment to savour the good stuff of life.  Our food is crafted with fresh ingredients and made by a team that understand how to bring the natural flavours out in all their intended fullness.  The drinks are well chilled and poured by a bartender who  loves what they do.  Wait staff are selected not only for their experience and skill, but for their capacity to make people feel welcome.  It’s been such fun to build our little family and we are deeply proud of the work they do everyday.  They invite you to ‘come as you are’ and hope that you’ll stay a while.

No, we are not perfect.  But, we genuinely aspire to being your spot, and we’ll do everything we can to make the Millstone your go to Public House!

Hand pressed and impressed

You can travel the world for culinary delights but the truth is the North American contribution to gastronomy centers predominantly around the humble hamburger.  We eat them in the backyard and in our cars, we eat them for lunch and dinner and we never grow tired of the hand held delight.  At the Millstone Public House we have taken this diet staple and kicked it up into position with the finest of foods.

“The Millstone” starts with fresh ground  certified black angus beef, expertly seasoned, rolled into a ball then hand pressed onto a hot griddle to sear in the flavours.  The top side of the buttery bun is then prepared with fresh arugula and sliced plump tomato.  The bottom receives the hot hamburger patty and is topped with sautéed mushrooms and onions, smoked bacon, creamy melty brie cheese and a delicious sauce that oozes over the sides.  This masterpiece is then complimented by our never-frozen hand-cut french fries and a bowl of our oh-so-garlicy caesar salad.  The result is a meal you’ll come back for again and again.

Have you tried it yet?  We hope you’ll come in soon.  To view our full menu please go to www.millstonepublichouse.com

We now have two locations to serve you better!

Lupercalia

It’s coming up soon.  Our February tradition that sends us all running to buy cards, flowers and candy and professing our love for our lovers.  It’s fun and sweet and best enjoyed with a great meal.  But what is the history behind Valentine’s day?  As with most long standing rituals there is a bizarre story that was the seed of this day.  It was once called Lupercalia and though there are certainly links to love and marriage the resemblance to our modern day version ends there.

“In ancient Roman times members of the Luperci, an order of Roman priests, would gather at a sacred cave where the infants Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome, were believed to have been cared for by a she-wolf or lupa. The priests would sacrifice a goat, for fertility. They would then take to the streets, gently slapping both women and crop fields with the goat hide. Far from being fearful, Roman women welcomed the touch of the hides because it was believed to make them more fertile in the coming year. Later in the day, According to legend, all the young women in the city would place their names in a big urn. The city’s bachelors would each choose a name and become paired for the year with his chosen woman. These matches often ended in marriage.  History.com

At the Millstone we will do something a little more down to earth and a lot more civilized.  There will be great wine, beautiful ambiance and another out of this world set menu to enjoy.  We hope you’ll join us and raise a glass to Love!

Why is it so good?

Life is busy and time can be short.  We grab a bite between meetings or scarf down a burger in the car on the way to soccer practice but sometimes we need to slow down and eat some food that took time.  At the Millstone Public House we proudly make things from scratch.  Our Seafood Chowder has received universal rave reviews from customers, family members and critics and we think it’s because our Chef knows how to make things with layers of flavour using fresh ingredients and the right amount of time.  It’s not easy.  It takes years of study and endless practice to make it look effortless but the truth is that things just taste better when they are done right.

Take our Seafood Linguine for example.  The pasta is cooked to a perfect ‘al dente’ when the order is made.  There are a million ways to ruin pasta but when your Chef spent months living in Italy you know it’s going to be done just right.   The fresh seafood is then tossed in garlic butter and sautéed perfectly to ensure it is cooked but not overdone.  Then comes the fresh cream, garlic, seasonings and other fresh ingredients that elevate the dish to something you’re really going to love.  Why is it so good?  Time…and experience…and knowledge…and skill.
