Grocery Box for May 7th with hand sanitizer and fresh bread!

We are now taking orders for this week’s Grocery Box service.

Once again we have worked hard to put together a few bags of groceries that will help our valuable customers.  This week, we have proudly worked with a few local businesses.  The hand sanitizer comes from Compass Distillers and the fresh loaf of bread from 24 Carrots Bakery.  Supporting local is as important to us as it is to you

To place your order please send your Name and Phone Number in an email with GROCERY ORDER in the subject line to:

DartmouthMillstone@gmail.com    or
BedfordMillstone@gmail.com

We will call you on Wednesday to take payment and schedule your pick up or delivery time for Thursday.  Contact free curb side pick up, trunk drop and home delivery options available.  We can send the groceries to you or someone you love…or both!  We are also able to add bottles of wine and beer.  If you want to add prepared meals like Pastas, salads, burgers and desserts please let the staff know when they call you.  Our take out menu can be found below or at www.millstonepublichouse.com

Last week we were able to offer our famous Chicken Parmesan dish as a feature, which was very well received.  This week we will be doing a classic Beef Stroganoff dish as a feature starting on Wednesday.

We hope you are staying well and looking forward to warmer weather and a little fun in the sun.  On behalf of our staff we want to thank you for your ongoing support and kindness through this difficult time.  We will survive to fully open again one day soon because you call and order and our hats are off to you!

Shine on….

Local craft beer available at the Millstone

In a market populated with large and increasingly ornamental tap handles, the Unfiltered ones are easy to miss.  Unless of course you are a fan and then you know what to look for.  In a way the small, sleek, stainless steel pulls are a nod to the way the beer is made.  Totally without pomp or additives.

When I had the chance to tour the Unfiltered Brewery and speak with brewmaster Greg Nash, I asked him why he chose such a diminutive nub.  His reply, like his beer, was straight forward and with no BS. “For me, it’s not about anything but the beer.  It’s got to taste great.  No fluff.  No smoke and mirrors.”

img_3335 img_3339

Made of just four basic ingredients, Water, Barley, Hops and Yeast, the beer is live and, as the name would suggest, unfiltered.  This gives it a noticeably cloudy appearance but there are a few reasons to leave it “LIVE”, which is what beer is called before it gets filtered.  It turns out brewers yeast is one of the richest natural sources of Vitamin B complex.  Beer that has not been filtered is loaded with B vitamins.  Why does this matter you ask?  Well, it turns out B Vitamins are leached from your body when you drink alcohol and their departure contributes significantly to the depth of the next day’s hangover.  Drinking beer full of B Vitamins could both cause and cure that hangover in one delicious gulp.  Secondly, Live beer is more flavourful, has a stronger body and is higher in mineral content.  This richness allows the beer to taste great all on its own.  As Nash puts it, “The beer is au natural!”

“Everybody wants craft beer.  They want to eat and drink locally.  They want to know what they are putting in their body,” Nash explains. “It’s the way the world is going..slowly but surely.  For us it’s about the beer.  Making great beer from natural ingredients and doing what we do well.  From the Grain to the Glass it’s three weeks.”

We have cans of Exile on North Street available for take out and delivery with meals.  Grab a few and enjoy a glass of some great local craft brew.

Grocery Bag!

We know that for many in our community the grocery store is increasingly difficult to access. For this reason we at the Millstone Public House have put together a $100 Grocery Bag service that we hope will assist those who would like to stock up on some basics to make meals at home. This is available on top of our existing Take out and Delivery prepared meal service.

These Grocery Bags will be available for Pick Up or Delivery this Thursday April 16th. Pick up times will be between 1:00 and 4:00pm. Deliveries will be scheduled after 4:00pm. Delivery fee of $1/km will apply and is paid directly to the delivery driver.

We can’t anticipate the demand for this service so we will run it for one week only and reassess. As a small business we are pivoting as fast as we can, trying our best to serve the community we love while providing employment for a small handful of employees. We have done our very best to provide this service at a fair price. Please know, we simply can’t compete with the grocery stores. They will always be able to offer more affordable products.

If you are interested in grabbing one of these pre-packed Grocery Bags please send an email with GROCERY ORDER in the subject line with your Name, Phone Number and Address to:

Please select the location that is closest to you. We are also able to add Wine, Beer and Desserts to your order. During our operating hours we can also add cooked meals from our Take out Menu. You can discuss these options with our Staff when they call to take payment for your grocery bags.

We thank you for your support during this challenging time. While we miss the clinking of glasses and the buzz of conversations over meals in our dining rooms, we are grateful that this beautiful community has embraced Physical Distancing for the good of us all.

Stay well. Stay safe.
Sincerely,
The Millstone Team.

Take out and Delivery

To our valued customers,

In an effort to participate in social distancing we have made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend our in house service as of March 16th at 8:00 pm. To maintain the safety of our staff and the community at large we feel this is the best option at this time. This is an incredibly difficult decision.

To allow our staff some level of employment as well as provide a service to our area we will be offering take-out and delivery services. Offerings will include select menu items as well as freezer meals and some basic provisions such as milk, bread, eggs and toilet paper based on availability. Details will be on our social media platforms as well as our website. This service will begin on Tuesday March 17th.

To place an order, contact either restaurant at the phone numbers listed below. The delivery fee of $1 per km will be paid to the staff member who brings the order to you and is added to your bill to cover their own expenses. Payment will be taken over the phone. Take-out orders will be discounted 10%.

Throwback Thursday

To celebrate our fourth birthday we have decided to something special!  We have come to know many of our regulars and they have come to love many of our dishes.  When a favourite is removed from the menu to make space for something new, fresh and exciting, we will often hear how much that particular dish is missed.  Well, we hear you…we really do.

For a limited time our incredible kitchen team will be preparing all your old faves from previous menus.  Check out the full schedule below and plan your next visit to the Millstone. We’re calling it Throwback Thursday and we think you’re going to love it.  If these features are popular enough we may even bring one or two items back to the regular menu.

‘Tis the Season

Last year we launched our Give a Card, get a mug camping and were blown away by the response.  We had to go back the incredible folks at Jym Line Glassware twice to reorder our stock.  Throughout the year we’ve had customers return to buy more of those beautiful mugs saying they are the ones they reach for most often when it’s time for a big hot cup of coffee or tea.  They are now coast to coast having been given as gifts to friends and family across this great country!  If you have a photo of you sipping the good stuff from one of these mugs please send them along and we’ll share them on our social media.  #millstonemug

Having such fun giving those mugs away last year we’ve decided to do it again.  While supplies last (we bought extra this time) we will give you a FREE Millstone Mug with the purchase of a $50 Gift Card, redeemable at both Millstone Public House locations.  You can gift the card and keep the mug, keep the mug and gift the card, gift both, or ..well, you get the picture.

We wish you and your loved ones all the best over the holiday season and invite you to stop by sometime for a bit of cheer.  You’re a stranger here but once.

Sincerely,

The staff of the Millstone Public House.

Rumours….

Rumours are funny things. We have recently received messages from a few concerned regulars asking if we are closing. They said they love our pub and would miss it if the rumours were true… please say it ain’t so!

Well, we are very happy to say there is no merit whatsoever to these strange rumours. We are NOT CLOSING…not even close.

As we head into our fourth year of business in this great community we are only getting stronger. Our staff are honesty some of the best in the business, we have recently launched a new menu that customer seem to be really enjoying and we are now nearly fully booked for Christmas parties in our back room!

Listening to all feedback, both good and not so good, we are constantly looking for ways to make everything even better for the guests we appreciate so much. Recently we’ve added some light diffusers that bring a softness to the space and also dampen sound on those busy nights full of joyful eating and chatting. Many of you asked for Great Big Friggin Red – a local Nova Scotia Wine – to be served by the glass as well as the bottle. Your wish was our command. How about easier to read credit and debit machines? Done!

We listen and work hard to earn your business.  We did it today, we’ll do it tomorrow and, if you’ll have us, we will for many years to come.

Come as you are. You’re a stranger here but once.

Sincerely,

The team at the Millstone Public House.
